Focus on Astrophotography : A Look at Luminos 9.4

Luminos Fans -

Luminos has featured controls for mixing and matching observation equipment since its earliest versions, but this support has always been focused on observing rather than photography. It's time for a change!

Choose Your Capture

With this update, Luminos becomes more powerful for fans of astrophotography. The Luminos reticle support now shows the dimensions of your frame in the sky view when you have a camera selected. Using the equipment calculator, you can see the effects of various cameras, scopes, and reducers on the capture area for your image.

Choose Your Capture

Once your equipment is set, you can adjust the frame to get the perfect angle for your image. To rotate, simply drag one of the four corner handles on your camera frame. The degree of rotation will be displayed for your reference.

Quick Edit Equipment

In order to speed up adding and editing equipment, you no longer have to hit an "Edit" button. Equipment is always editable. Your changes are automatically saved when you leave the screen.

More Observations

As always, we’ve made a few other changes to Luminos that we want you to know about:

  • You can now locate the New Horizons Kuiper Belt target 2014 MU69 via its nickname "Ultima Thule".
  • The sky view has been optimized for even better performance, especially when a Browser is open.
  • The very latest planetary surface feature updates from the International Astronomical Union are included.

It's been a pleasure bringing you Luminos 9.4. Let us know your thoughts.

Clear skies,

John and Brian
