Timing is Everything : A Look at Luminos 9.7

Luminos Fans -

While the news may have seemed quiet for a little while, there's a major "next generation" version of Luminos looming on the horizon. For now, though, there's still exciting developments in Luminos 9 that I want to share with you. Some of these new features have been moved up into version 9.7. Consider them a preview of things to come!

Expand Your Horizon

In this release, I've redesigned the settings for grids so that they are simpler and more consistent. You can turn on full grids for horizontal, equatorial, ecliptic, or galactic coordinates. Or, you can turn on individual markers for the meridian, equator, or ecliptic path. And for the first time, you can individually turn on the horizon indicator for clarity when terrain is hidden.

Configure the grids exactly to your needs

All of the grids are modified by a single "Brightness" control.

Seconds Count

If you use the Luminos app with a SynScanLink app to control a Sky-Watcher mount, astrophotography just got a little easier. A new "Shutter control" configuration lets you activate an attached camera from multiple modes. If your camera is in bulb mode, you can hold open the shutter using an onscreen button. Or, you can program an automatic mode to take a series of shots at regularly-timed intervals.

To Boldly Go

Sometimes you may be in the mood for a leisurely flight to a distant planet. Other times, you just want to teleport there without delay.

Luminos now consistently allows you to teleport during any flight by tapping the action button a second time, which will complete the journey instantly. This works for "Home", "Ride along", "Fly into orbit", and "Land on the surface" actions.

Hit the "Home" button again to teleport

More Observations

As always, we’ve made a few other changes to Luminos that we want you to know about:

  • The Browser has been updated with a more modern look, featuring less translucency.
  • The marker for a telescope in the sky view is easier to detect.
  • When the detail view for an object is in "Advanced" mode, transit altitude is displayed where appropriate.
  • The app now accommodates larger font sizes more consistently.

Thanks for your support of the Luminos app! Feel free to send us your feedback at luminos-support(this part is to confuse spam robots -- remove it)@(this part too)wobbleworks.com.

Clear skies,

John
